Falcon State Park

Featured Replies

I posted this on another forum but thought I'd try here as well.  I'm finally going to get to do some Texas bass fishing in the next couple of weeks.  I haven't been south since Sept. and it's killing me.  I'm planning on going to Falcon, since I haven't been there in years, and can't seem to find any rooms around Zapata.  Man, I wish my aunt and uncle still lived there.

Was thinking about staying at Falcon St. Park and was wondering if any one had any information about it.  Is it safe?  Is there a boat ramp?  Is there any good fishing close to there?  Any where to eat breakfeast and supper close?  Any and all information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Go to: www.falconlaketackle.com and check out all the info. Safe is relative. You should be fine there though.

65# braid is a must. Carry something to cut your way through areas just in case you find an out of the way flat sitting behind all that brush.

Good luck, you will have a blast.

The state park is fine. The boat ramp is excellent but the closest town is Falcon Hieghts just south of the park. Not much there.

Need a cheap clean place to stay down by the state park call Mike Garza at the 83 Motel and Grocery. Phone number is 956 848-5223. Tell him that his friends from Austin recommended the place.

It is $40.00 to $45.00 a night.

My club from Austin stays with him everytime we go. Great guy.

Its just down the road from the state park.

Unless there is a major tourny, there should be plenty of rooms availiable in Zapata.  Try the sunbridge motel, it is fairly new and right across from the H-Inn Express!  They are very boater friendly, clean, nice, and best of all cheap!  About $80 for a 2 bed room!

However, if there is a big tourny and everything is booked, you may want to try staying in Hebronville, TX; which is just up the road off hwy 16, about 40 minutes North of Zapata.  I forgot which one it was, but they have a nice , cheap little place that i have stayed at before when Zapata was booked!  This is better than nothing if you are out of options!

I suggest that you just dont come down.  Falcon doesnt have any fish anyways!  There was a big fish kill yesterday and there all gone.  I ll tell you when the lake gets back on its fee. (LOL)!

Went down 2 weeks ago and had a pretty good trip.  No picture fish but a bunch four and five pounders with the largest being 7.40#.  State park was OK and have reservations for March 1st through the 6th.  Too bad about the fish kill, but I guess I'll just take my chances.  8-)
