First Trip to Lake Fork

Featured Replies

Got back this past weekend for 3 day trip to Fork. Started off a little slow, but caught the biggest Bass of my life. A 25.5" 9 lb. beauty. Cuaght several 4-6 lb fish. To my surprise, caught more quality fish than small fish. I was also surprised at not catching numbers of bass(small). I caught maybe 15 or so, but only 4 was below 2-3 lbs. Most was 4-6lbs. That 9lb was memorable, fight to landing without net. ;)

I made my first eight and a half hour trip to Fork in 1993.  I made my second trip two weeks later.  Since then, I've fished it 60+ times.  Fork can be a blast and it can also kick your arse.   ;)

It's known for fishing tough at times. Just when you think you have it all figured out it throws you a curve that can last for a few days. Kicked my bass so many times it ain't funny.

That being said the next bite can be the fish of a lifetime.

Congratulations on your Lake Fork success. Fork has been the best this spring I have ever seen. Most every angler I speak with are happy and catching fish. I have seen guys come to Fork for their week long trip and get skunked -- all week. What a great lake and a great year.

When is another prime time for going to fork, or is there one other than early april?

I love Fork in the Summer, from June till Dec, very predictable fishing in my opinion due to stable patterns.

Once the summer pattern sets up out deep, you can set your watch on being at certain spots at certain times to catch that bite.  Summer means stable weather and stable patterns.

If you spent 3-5 nights at the dam, or on Caney point and a few other choice spots and threw a King Kong Swim Bait or something similar all night, you'll have several fish over 8lbs easily.
