heading to falcon

Featured Replies

It seems like only yesterday we were planning this trip and booking flights, rooms and guides. Lots of penny pinching for a rough year finacially. Loss of a job and high cost of living...but managed to save it all up.

We booked Charlie H and Jim E. There are 4 of us going, fishing 2 guys with each guide 2 days (4 days of fishing). I have to feel we got 2 of the top 3 or 4 guides on that lake...and Charlie is for sure #1. I'd like to thank Fishfor Dollars for pointing me in the right direction.I know it may not be a big deal for some of you fellas, but for us "Yankee Bassers" a fish over 6lbs is a dream come true...let alone a 8 or DD.

And I never went away on a trip like this...hunting or fishing. So I personally am on Cloud Nine.

We are leaving on the 29th (Sat) and returning on Friday (4th). Staying at the Best Western. If any one is around please feel free to say, "Howdy".

We'll be the ones with the funny accents....LOL.

You will be amazed. Charlie is known for putting clients on great big fish. Won't be surprised at all if you put a DD in the boat. Be sure to take a camera. Spawn will/should be going big time when you arrive.

I'm sure Charlie told you, but 65# braid is the norm. Falcon Lake Tackle can/will help you with anything you need.

Pics and a full report is required when you return.

Yes, it's a big deal to us to.

Enjoy,

Jack

P.S., you will be shocked at the size of the big water. You'll know what i'm talking about when he turns south out of Veleno Creek.

I'll be fishing with Charlie this Friday and Saturday.  Hopefully I'll come back with some pictures to get you fired up whoopbazz!!

You guys make me sick. I'll get back down there shortly. Good luck and waiting on your report. FYI, the water temps yesterday were running 63-64 so i bet you will be doing some bed fishing or the rockpiles on the main lake and secondary points this weekend.

I'm fired up already!  But yes keep me posted on your return.

We planned on the trip based on the prespawn/spawn timing. Can't imagine a 10lber with extra egg weight o her.  :D

Guide Tommy Law caught a new lake record Friday. Weighed 15.63. That will give you something to sleep on. Word is they had another over 13 in the boat to.

Catt, Lake Alan Henry produced 2 over 13 thursday and 2 more over 13 yesterday. All 4 were donated to the S.A.L. program. I guess it's on now.

Actually one of the 4 was over 14.

This makes it all the harder to wait.

They've been catchin sum big uns down there!

Sorry it took so long to get this posted. We just got back in to Tulsa late last night. Anyway here's the report.

Friday we hit the water about 7:30 and headed straight for the Salado and fished rock at 25-30 ft. Things started fairly slowly with a few dinks and a couple 3-4 lbers before lunch. After lunch we headed south and finally got the bigger fish to bite. When they did decided to play, it came fast, with 8-10 fish over 5lbs in the matter of 20-30 minutes. Charlie had the big fish of the day at 8lb 2oz I believe, I had a 7lb 7oz and a 7lb 3oz and my fishing partner pulled in one at 7lb 6oz and one just under 7lbs. We had 5-6 fish each from 4-6 lbs. Tex rigged Senkos and Flukes in watermelon red and a PB&J jig were most effective. We got to the ramp about 4pm and immediately heard the news that Tommy Law had broken the lake record with a 15.63. Absolutely incredible fish and the lake will benefit greatly from the exposure. Congrats to him!!

Satuday was cooler and FOGGY. We got a bit later start due to the fog and our day just never really recovered. The bite was slow all day long. Nothing over 4-1/2 all day and only a few of them. We again fished 20-30 ft, but decided to try to the shallow bite as well, but the big girls just weren't willing to play.

All in all, while we missed the REALLY big fish, we had a ton of fun and a great trip overall. Charlie is a great guide and you'll be laughing all day with some of the stories he tells. He'll make no secret of the fact that he prefers fishing deep and if I had to guess you'll spend most of your time in 15-25 ft of water. You don't need anything lighter than a MH rod and 25lb fluorocarbon and/or 50lb braid. Leave the fairy wand and finesse stuff at home and get ready for some HARD fighting fish!! I'll be anxious to hear your report.

Here's a picture of me and my college buddy Ryan from Friday (that's my ugly mug on the right) with our four biggest fish of the day.

Glad ya'll had a good time. Catching 3-4 over 7 is a great day. Did ya'll go over into Mexico? I know he fishes there a lot.

Give us his thoughts about the problems going on along the lake.

Falcon lake got 1.35" of rain monday night. first measurable rain since October 13, 2010. that's how dry it's been down there.

We spent the majority of our time in Mexico.  We didn't go past the old church, but we fished right up to it.  From talking to Charlie, he's just tired of the whole commotion and no one I talked to believes Hartley's story 100%.  I think you owe it to your loved ones to keep your head on a swivel down there, but don't let it ruin your time.  Pay attention to your surroundings and you'll be fine!!
