South (east) Louisiana bass fishing

Featured Replies

around Mandeville, La. I might be moving there for work and want to know all of the best places within 1 hr drive. should be more specific.  I know the areas south of Lake Ponchatrain (sp?) are available and I know the Atchafalaya (sp?) basin is available.

I was curious if there were any smaller lakes around the north shore area.  How are the tchefuncte and pearl rivers?

Thanks

Pearl is a great river to fish. easy to run and has some good fishing all over it. Lots of ramps to use. Its my home water since I live in Slidell.

Yeah, I hear nothing but good about Pearl River. A lot of the guys from down here in the Ponchatoula/Hammond area fish it. I've never been though.

Awesome. Thanks everybody.  Is the Tchefunte (sp?) a fishable river by boat?  It seems like it gets small quickly on the maps.  Also is the fishing any good?

Tchefuncte or w.e is one of the larger rivers around the area. Gets a decent amount of pressure, I think theres a weekly tournament held there. Mostly pleasure boaters though, river gets deep and I'm almost positive sturgeon have been caught in it. If you take HWY 22 to the drawbridge from Mandeville, a launch is on your right. Take a left at Baddeaux's (the road RIGHT after it) and follow it all the way down, it brings you to the lake and some decent fishing with another launch. Its a little more "shady" down there though.

PS: Baddeaux's is the little burger shop
