Mississippi River Bassin'

Featured Replies

I Live on the Mississippi River in Illinois just south of I-80. I was just wondering if anybody has fished from pool 18 to pool 13.

I know the water pretty well, I've been fishing it my whole life. But I was just curious if anybody has fished the same waters I have, and what size of fish you've pulled out.

Thanks for your time!!!

I love fishing wooded points of islands in late summer/early fall, and in the spring, where the water is warmest that is usually the key.

I would still like to hear other opinions on where and how to fish the river, wherever you're located at on the muddy Mississippi.

I primarily fish 13 and occasionally 14, but don't bother wasting my time going south any farther. lol  Frogs are hard to beat, but my favorite techinuqe is throwing a spinnerbait or chatterbait parrellel with grass along the dredge cuts or along the current areas.

i am alittle north pools 11&12

crankbaits and spinnerbaits work good as well as frogs in the grass

I've heard that when there is enough water in pool 14 that it can be good, but i've never really spent much time there. and pool 16 where i'm at would be good if we had some more vegetation, but from what my dad told me the flood of '93 really took all the vegetation out and it hasn't came back yet.
