michigan side of lk erie bass report 12/30/07

Featured Replies

woke up this morning and decided to be bold and try to pull off 1 more boating trip for bass before a long winters wait, got ahold of jeff cox and met at the ramp on lk erie.

we pulled up to 90% of the bay iced over and could see the channel was wedged from side to side with thick ice, I decided to launch and see if I could break it like I had this spring and we were able to get out after some "MAJOR" ice breaking.

wonder if skeeter knows they developed an ice breaker/bass boat?

it was up to 2 inches thick, the boat would raise up a foot or so then drop through it took about 10 minutes to go a couple hundred yards but we pushed and broke all the way out the channel till what we considered open water only a 1/4" of ice then it was smooth cruising to the pond, a couple times the boat went on top of the ice and got stuck so we jumped on the bow to break the ice under the boat.

we cought 16 bass and 14 were 14" or bigger with many fish in the 2 to 3 1/4 range our best 5 each was about the same at about 14lbs.

we seen bald eagles all over in the trees we counted 18 at 1 time, what a cool way to end a great seoson of bass fishing.

after all the loud grinding and abuse all I could find for damage was my hambys keel shield had several large chunks taken out but the keel appears to be fine and I cant see any scratches on the side allthough it was getting dark and snowing hard guess I will see in the spring when it comes out of the garage.
