Strike King - King Shad

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I was just wondering if you have tried the King Shad and what you thought of it. I just watched a fishing show and they were nailing 'em on it. Looked good.

I have a couple, have not fished them yet.  I worry about the strength of the joint.

They do come with quality hooks.

One of the members here posted about his experience with them. He said that the bodies were breaking in half where the joint is. I will try to dig up the thread...

Yeah that was me, I had one probably 4 or more months ago that drew a nice hit, the hook was set and I fought the fish for about 5 seconds, then I felt her come off. When I reeled in I only had half the lure. Man I have really turned a lot of people away from the king shad around me, but maybe they have changed them by now.

Do you still have the front half? Could you post a pic of how it broke? I bet Strike King would be interested, I know I am. Maybe it needs to be tweaked....man I hate messing with baits to make them better.... ;)

I wonder if thats just a defective one, or if its common. Its pretty said that a 20 dollar bait breaks on one fish.

Sorry man, but I tossed it in sort of a rage. Ill draw a little picture to sho you what it looked like

Ok this is the design of the hinge, its a poor design to say the least. The part I drew is attached to the front half of the lure. The back half just loosely fits to it for flexibility. That hinge is made of weak plastic. So weak that the top nub broke off. That plastic on the hinge is weaker than, let's say a rapala crankbait lip. I don't think the plastic on the hinge is fortified at all.

sorry I couldn't attach the picture I drew on microsoft paint
