A Very Good Day FOR BROWN BASS

Featured Replies

I had the pleasure of getting out with DSouth yesterday on a pond near Cape Cod. Left the house at about 4:45 a.m. and met Dan around 6:15. We were on the water by about 7:30. Always great to spend a day on the water with Dan.

Very odd day weather wise with showers, bright sun, shifting winds, 15 degree drops in temperature etc. Water temps were 50ish. We primarily used suspending jerkbaits in 5' of water to 20' of water. Dan caught some giant white perch that were pushing 2 pounds. I had a few like that as well in addition to 6 smallmouth and 1 largemouth. All the smallmouth bass came on suspending jerkbaits, except one that was caught on a grub. The Largemouth was caught in about 3' of water on a Super Fluke Jr.

Here are some photos of the smallies. The first smallmouth, a heavy 3, about 3-12 caught on a gold jerkbait:

The next one, same bait, also 3 and change:

Another one on a jerkbait, this one went 4-4 and was the largest of the trip:

Another 4 pound smallie that was as round as a pumpkin. Caught on a deep diving husky jerk in about 20'.

Thanks for the trip Dan. Hope we can get out again soon. I have a feeling you will be holding some big bass in tomorrow's report.
