To swivel or not to swivel?(Senkos/Stickbaits)

Featured Replies

Does everyone use a swivel when fishing Senkos/Stickbaits? I went out today to fish tubes on my new spinning combo, but the bass weren't hitting them. I switched to my Tiki Sticks for a while, but did not find any swivels in my backpack. I have always used swivels for Stickbaits due to advice from others. I fished these for about an hour non-stop and had no issues with line twist. I just wondering what others experience is.

as long as the bait is absolutely straight on the hook you will be fine with the line twist issue.

well unless a bass hits it and u miss it then it twists pretty bad  but i dont use one

I don't use a swivel.Never had a problem.

I never use a swivel and I've never had any issues with line twist.

Thanks guys, I have always hated tying the swivel on. I just started fishing plastics last spring, and took the advice that was given. I noticed I never saw another swivel among most of the fisherman I am around. I am now fishing plastics 90% of the time. Their versatility and cost cannot be beat. The senko/stickbait is something I am still learning to use in different ways, and the swivel complicates it.

The only time I use a swivel is with a drop shot rig. it serves a few purposes for me. It allows me to pre-tie several DS rigs so I don't have to waste time retieing when I break one off. It does help prevent line twist to some extent since a DS rig is notorious for line twists. It's also an excellent way to DS really deep using braid for your main line, and co-poly or mono for the drop shot rig.

I get line twist depending on what lure I am using (without a swivel.)

Though swivels are for newbs

I do not use swivels any more and would usually use them when I would switch from a deep diver to a spinner or lures similar to those.

I much rather have my line hooked straight to the hook anyway.

You do know that there is a difference between a snap swivel and a barrel swivel, don't you?   :;)

I am only referring to barrel swivels and only with Senkos/Stickbaits, but thanks anyway. :;)
