Featured Replies

Hey guys, goin out for a looong trip tommorow...

don't really know how to fish jigs correctly, i have a few booyahs, and some similar stuff like that, also have jig heads with yamamoto kreatures and some lizards and stuff...

what colors are good in this cold water and how do you fish them correctly??

Thanx Alan!  ;)

As far as jig selection and colors for this time of year in New England, these are my thoughts. I make no claims to be an expert, but since really learning the art of the jig last year(and catching that pig last weekend) I think I have it almost figured out.

Right now, the water is still in the mid to upper 50's so I like a smaller jig...1/8 oz to 1/4 oz. I really like the finesse jigs, anything in a natural color (green pumpkin, browns, reds, blacks and blues... depending on water clarity) I will at times add a bit of color to the trailer with some Spike It.

I have found that this time of the year, it is best to be patient and work the bait slowly. However, once you catch that first one, you need to remember what you were doing and how the fish bit the bait. Then you can start putting the rest of the puzzle together.

It's a trial and error thing, but once you start producing, you won't want to put it down....then wait until late spring and summer when the bass will absolutely crush a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jig like a Mack truck.

I really learned alot by fishing with guys like Tin and LBH, sometimes going out for the day with someone will improve your confidence and skill level. Hope that helped....
