holy crap-BEDS!!

Featured Replies

I wasn't expecting this for AT LEAST another 2 weeks.  I knew they would go early this year but holy cow, the May moon isn't till the 3rd week!

Yup, you guessed it, we found 13 beds and 7 had fish on them, 2 of them stayed and didn't spook.  They each ate steel, lol.

But yea,...if they are on beds at lake "X", they are on throughout the state.  We are the the highest elevated body and tucked in the NW corner, we get those uglier temps.  So if they are on there, they are on everywhere.

Have fun and remember to take extra care when handling and releasing a spawning fish.

Catch em up!

I fished a torney Thurs in R.I. I also saw some beds (smallies)......The weather has them ready ..Water temp was 59-61 deg.

Is it by any chance an interstate lake?

nope,reservoir

Got one of a bed and my brother in law had his line snapped by a very rude lmb which was trying to ignore his grub but, instead just ripped it and the hook off the line...

A lot of beds around here too

It almost sucks since the water just warmed up and the fishing started to get good!

Wow...that's crazy.  :( You mean it's almost time for those 40 -50 fish days?  ;)

First one I saw I thought might be an anomalie, then the next one had a fish on it.

I was brought back immediately to the day we actually got to know each other and hang for the day.  That was sooooooome fun son. ;)

Here we go again,.....roll film!! :)

Ah, gotcha. Didnt know you could fish that. Been to Wallum?

Thursday 6PM johsnon pond was 66-68.6 degrees

Russ, what do you think will happen with the beds this week, given the projected temps?

On Sat Mashapaug was in full spawn largemouth and smallmouth.

Water temp was 59

I was beside myself --its so early

Norman, I think I agree with Tin.  The fish have moved off but are still ready to go,..it didn't get THAT cold.  This week as things stabilize, they will move back up but we won't see a major wave with the moon like last yr.  I think by the time the moon hits, it will merely trigger those that have not gone yet.  It will be a steady spawn but no influx.

We'll know for sure soon enough, filming next weekend here in RI with Mike D from Lunkerville.  Fingers crossed, I hope we can put the guys on some fishies,....fat ones, full of egg would be even better!

;)

Russ, a steady, extended spawn would be great.

Can't wait to see the Lunkerville video.
