It kind of did look like that but the mouth was a little darker ,

i was fishing at a resivoir in waltham that i've fished for 30 years and never caught one of these.

PS where are you in that picture it looks familiar

south natick dam on the charles in natick, maybe just a different race of largemouth bass, one of those african american largemouth bass  :)

yea on rt 16 in south natick, although right now the fish are so gone its rediculous, earlier in the season i was catching 8 or 9 bass all over 2 pounds in a matter of a few hours every day.  But the water is wicked low everywhere on the charles right now....

i havn't caught any pike, a few pickys though that were massive...  I bet there are some crazy big pikes in there though downriver

but it is wierd that every bass i catch beneath the falls seem to be that jet black color while bass i catch at the top of the falls tend to be a completely different color pattern.  Maybe it depends on location, depth or whathaveyou that they live in, who knows?

yeah there supposedly some big friggin pike in there .

i don't know what it is about this year but i've had a terrible season so far , although i haven't put the time in that i have in past years.

at least you didnt fall into the charles twice the other day like my stupid *** trying to be the super bass saving hero stuck on a limb :-[

Haven't had much luck at Twin Coves in Waltham (off south street, across from Charlesgate appts) but saw someone pull in a good sized pike two weeks ago, had to be 30 inches.    I've only gotten some tiny bass and crappies on worms or grubs when I've been there though.  They just dredged it to get rid of all the weeds but there's still a lot of crap floating on top.

I've never really had much luck at the twin coves but a couple of oldtimers told me that years ago they used to catch tiger musky there.

I think allthe geese has impacted the fishing, bringing weed seeds from places elsewhere, that along with all the "fertilizer".  20 years ago there was about one tenth the weeds, just some lily pads.  You can't throw a Mepps in or a rapala unless you want to lose one or two due to the crap there.  I haven't been over to Maple Cove in years (just started fishing again after a long time out of it) but I heard it's the same.  I'm not seeing much Pike or Pickerel anywhere in the Waltham/Watertown stretch of the Charles.  Might try the River Walk down near Newton st in Waltham.  Used to be a lot of pike there.
