I'm thinking about tying up my kayak at Rocky Gorge this summer because it's 30 min closer to me than the lock, it doesn't seem like there would be as much boat traffic, and my kayak is big and heavy and a pain to load on and off the car. So, if anyone fishes there:

Has the fishing been good?

Are the stake tie-ups really safe?

Where can I get a good map of the lake?

I've never fished Rocky Gorge so I can't help you out much. But I can tell you that MD DNR put a small snippet in the Freshwater fishing report on their site this week. Here's the link: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries/fishingreport/freshwater.asp

Rocky Gorge can be both rewarding and frustrating all in the same breath.

There are some big bass in there as well as some other species.  It seems like once the spawn is over the fish spread out and or go deep which makes fishing the lake tough at times.

Ok, OK the boats in the driveway,batteries are charging,beer is open and steaks on the grill,,,,the report for this evening,,,,,,water temp is at 80,,,water level dropped about a foot since sunday,,four fish in he boat in 3 1/2 hours,,,,still seems to be a post spawn pattern,,,fish were caught tight in to wood near deeper water.All fish were taken on senkos. largest of the 4 was 2lbs even. As I left I was expecting more until I looked at my log from the same week last year and found it  to be a skunker.I'm going out again tomarrow pm. going to try to get further up lake were the water has been warmer longer,,maybe a more agressive feed.I really want to see a pm thunderstorm or shower,,that usually sets Rocky off.

Great lake, if you have the patience to fish it. Like bad fish said... four in the boat in 3 1/2 hours isn't bad, especially post spawn.

Well the Gorge proved fickle yet again. We were hoping for a gentle rain storm but got a fast moving storm system. Ended up with one in the boat in about 3 hours, even after throwing the whole tackle box.

At least the bilge is clean...

Just fished Rockygorge for the first time today! I took my two man kayak and my buddy john and a topo map and just went for it , had no clue about the place. we put in at the ramp off of supple rd.got there at 6:30am as soon as we were in the water I could see fish breaking acoss the lake by the powerlines got there to discover the lake has a great white perch population. I cought two bass on a spitin image( top water ) on the point under the lines.aafter 8:30 - 9:00 we dicided to go up the lake across from the big point on first main bend in the lake my map showed a step drop near the bank fished a white senko , nothin! Tried crank bait . nothin! then I went to my old reliable 4" curly tail worm peanutbuter n jelly color with a 1/16 oz. bullet weight. BINGO ! caught 7 more before we left at 11:30 nothing biger then 2 pounds but stil not bad for first visit this lake seems promising can't wait to come back with my depth finder then its on! fish were on drop offs in 8 foot deep or more.
