Tried a new pond today

Featured Replies

My son and I tried a new pond today. Bennits Pond in Ridgefield Connecticut.

Had an insane amount of bass there. Unfortunatly we needed a small boat to get at the better spots there, so that will be the next investment.

We caught about a dozen 10 to 14 inch LMB on  variety of baits and lures. Other than LMB and sunny's we didnt see another speicies and clearly the LMB is predominant.

Yea, I know 10 to 14 inch is not very massive, but where there are small ones there are large ones and there were alot of bass in that pond.

Its a huge place and we unfortunatly walked the entire perimeter plus the road down hill going in, which is of course up hill coming out. The darn lilly pads this time of year make the place look like a jungle so a small row boat would be key there.

We also tried a couple of smaller ponds close by, but the early morning window was well behind us by then.

Hey there thanks for posting this.  There doesn't seem to be many CT anglers here.  Another place you can try is Hall's pond in Windham county CT.  There are big ones in there but again you'd need a boat to get to the good spots.  Connecticut is like that.  Almost all of the good places to fish now require a boat because of the drought that happened last year (or the year before?)  Well anyway it ruined the water levels and changed all of the "spots"

I second Halls. But make sure you get there early!! like pre 6:00 am at the latest. Parking is extremely limited and it is packed before 7:00am. Big time recreational kayak and canoe spot. I finished there the other day by 12:00 and had to wait about 30 minutes for people loading and unloading. The place is awesome considering the fishing pressure.

Halls sound awsome but a bit far from me, especialy if i want to be there before 6AM.

Maybe after i get a jon boat. That is definetly the next purchase. This time of the year I cant imagine any other way

Do you guys know anywhere else down my way??

I paved a road a couple of years back and 1 of the homes on the sub division didnt sell for quite a while. The name of the subdivision is "Christmas Lake". Seeing the obvious, i asked the builder if I could fish it. He said go ahead. That was the best bass fishing i have ever had. 22 large mouth in 1 1/2 hour.

It was crazy. They hit anything and every thing. Nothing too big, like 13 to 15 inchers, but no junk fish. Just LMB.

Then of course someone did buy the place. (I couldnt afford the 3 mil price tag, or i would have bought it just for the fish) and that was the end of that. I found the wealthy dont want the rif raf fishing on thier property 8-)
