High Power Herring
Nice. I understand now. Thank you for replying. I caught one of the biggest bass of my life on a 4" spro BBZ shad and I know that thing isn't that special. But it did open my eyes so to speak and I'm ready to step up to something a little more "professional". Very interested in the HPH.

High Power Herring
The HPH definitely has my interest. But why is it so difficult to find information on it? Like colors, weight, and cost?

Revo STX or Citica baitcasters
I was gonna say this lol. So yeah I started that thread and I definitely like my new Revo STX a lot. Its built like a tank, and despite this being my first baitcaster i have had no problems using it or dialing it in.

Spro BBZ-1 4" Shad
Man all you guys keep saying bad things about the 4". I own both the 6" and the 4" and I've caught way more fish on the 4". That may just be a result of where I live and fish, but I'm going to try and fish that 6" a little more and see if I can get some bigguns. Oh and I also own the Tru Tungsten 4" and again the Spro 4" beats it for me. But I do like the fact that I can change the sink rate on the Tru Tungsten. Good luck out at Mansfield Hollow Russbert!

You definitely can.

Spro BBZ-1 4" Shad
Weird I've never had any problems casting this bait. Actually its one of the farthest casting swimbaits I own because of its density. Also, every single fish that takes this lure gets hooked. I'm not saying that it isn't possible to get short biters, but 99% of the time in my experience they hook themselves eagerly. Hardly a situation where a trailer hook is needed. I also own this bait in Killer Gill and it caught me my PB in my home state. I also own the Blueback Herring color. Slow sink is my fav. The 6 inch has two hooks on it with a longer body.

So...I just emailed Stike King
Dude... :-? : "UPDATE: Just got the package today. I was surprised with what I found inside. Chris sent me 4 spinnerbaits (2 3/16oz AlphaShin, 2 3/8oz ChartWhite), a strike king hat, and their catalog. Really makes you feel special when a company actually cares about their products. If that isn't excellent customer service, I don't know what is. "

New Pfleuger Supreme XT
I also picked it up and played with it. It feels pretty nice, although what reel doesn't feel nice in that price range when new?. I have been using the previous model Supremes for about 3 seasons now and they are d**n good for what I paid. Did you happen to see the new Patriarch spinning reel? I couldn't find one to pickup and play with. I'm very interested in it because its Pfluegers first 200 dollar spinning reel. I wonder if they pack the same bang for the buck as the others?

Question on using the Alberto Knot.
No I haven't ever tried tying mono to mono with an alberto. But why would you be doing that anyway? Because new reel with 1. new mono backing 2. not enough braid on it (can cast to knot) 3. don't want to throw away the new line being used as backing 4. decided to use rod for mostly crank style baits. 5. I'm frugal (hate throwing away perfectly good line). I have a few yards left of P-line CX 8 lb. that I am going to use for some unscientific testing. I figure if the knot doesn't slip it will most likely be strong enough, but will compare it against the Uni-to-Uni. Lol ok I hear ya. Yeah definitely experiment because there may be a better knot for mono to mono. But the best braid to leader by FAR is the Alberto.

Moaner hooks
Moaner hooks are just Mustad Ultrapoints, so yeah they are good.

Leader length when fishing braid
I use about 8 feet personally. It really is personal preference IMO. But the reason I use 8 feet is because I compulsively retie at the smallest amount of damage to my leader. It gets shorter real quick. And I highly recommend the Alberto Knot over any other knot for braid to leader connections.

Question on using the Alberto Knot.
I have been using the Alberto knot for years now. It is without a doubt my favorite line to line knot. The stuff I have put this knot through is ridiculous, and I trust it as much as you can possibly trust a knot. Now as for lines close in diameter, IMO you will be totally fine tying 40 lb braid to 12lb mono. Just make sure that whenever you are tying braid to mono (or any other leader) that the braid is the line that you "wrap around". When tied this way the braid makes a phenomenal grip around the mono regardless of diameter. As always, when tying two new lines together, try tying a couple of small pieces together at home and test it out.
