Lake Wallenpaupack

Featured Replies

Has anyone been out on paupack? I plan on fishing paupack in a couple days, and am looking for some advice. If you would like to share any info please PM me.

  • 5 weeks later...

It's got a great smallie population... The striper fishing is good too...

Tube baits of all colors work, and the go to color is chartreuse for anything... Lots of down timber to jig all over the lake...

Best time to fish for stripers is at night(of course)... Just wait to hear them surface and cast stick baits at them... You won't catch anything amazing but when they are biting it's great...

Forget about fishing during the weekend unless it's very early or very late... The boat traffic is horrendous....

If you plan to eat anything from the lake check the health advisories on the PA Fish Commission website... I know walleyes were heavily polluted with mercury, not sure about anything else, but I wouldn't eat anything out of there... Very dirty water....

Im from Milford. I have fished it a few times, but its not really my bag. I have had good luck fishing in deep weeds. But, ill tell you this: Under that lake, is a whole friggin TOWN. and, it is "legend" that somewhere in the south-western part, in about 40-50 feet of water, there is a CHURCH underwater, and if the light hits it just right, you can see the crusifix underwater! Where exactly, idk, but if youre looking for a partner, ill be happy to drive up there and go fishing with ya!

Yea, i think its somewhere in the southeast part. Im not entirely sure. But legend has it of MONSTER smaillies suspending on it.

I've fished "The Pack" many times, but not in quite awhile. However I've always had good luck on the dam side of the lake. Shuman's point is good for striper's, then the area of Epply island is good for smalies. I also fish the Caffrey area, both from the shore and boat for smalies. (If from the shore, I'd toss some power worms in blue or black off the docks.) The area of red rock (which is just down the lake from the caffrey) there's a nice sized weed bed that I'd also toss some power worms into. I've never had any luck up the other end (near Ledgedale) But a cousin of mine caught a MONSTER channel cat up there. And a guy I worked with caught a near-record rainbow up the river. As far as the Church, it's just a legend, according to the Corps of Engineers all the building were demolished before the lake was impounded, however some of the foundations were still there... Hope this helps you out.

Good to know. God, I wanna go fishing there again SO BAD! d**n my Nitro for being in the shop.

Your right, there wasn't any type of town under the water...

There were a few estates that were there though... If you go to the visitors center, they have some really old/accurate maps of the area before the flooding... The foundations are still there and you can find them with a good graph and a little bit of exploring...

Wow. I really friggin thought there was a Church. lol. Let this be a lesson to all of you: Never believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see. :o

Nope no church, but keep telling the story... It wouldn't be fishing if there wasn't story telling...
