Seneca Lake, NY

Featured Replies

Hey guys, a buddy of mine is getting married July 26th, so I'll be staying at a hotel right on Seneca Lake (NW corner) for a few days. Anyone know anything about the lake?

From what I've found online, it seems like a great fishery, both for trout (Rainbow and Lake), and bass (SMB and LMB). I'm wondering if it is at all possible to fish the lake from shore. It looks like there are some great spots around the hotel, and the smallies should be up in the shallows. There are some rocky breakwalls/piers (can't tell which from the images), and it looks like I can walk all the way out to the end. The north end of the lake should be pretty calm as long as there's not a southerly wind.

Trolling for trout doesn't appeal to me at all, and all of the charters I've found seem like their target is lake trout.

Any and all info is appreciated  :o

Tony, Seneca is a great fishery but I do not fish it often even tho I live 5 miles from it. It is usually to rough for me as I get motion sickness easily. :'( There are 2 launches close to where your staying. I take it it is the Ramada. One is walking distance just down the street, and the State Park is a mile or two down the road. There is a pier in front of the Hotel also if you have no boat.

Have fun,

Maxum

I believe Seneca lake is near lake Kuika (sp?).

Me and my friends 2 years ago went on a fishing trip out there. Rented a house right on the lake, it was unreal..!!

Fishing is great @ seneca i heard! As with Kuika, Seneca has alot of small mouth bass.. water is crystal clear, any bright lures work well. I was using a white spinner with one spoon. Landed tons of SMB and a monster Pike on it.. only lure i used all week!!! lol

Cool thanks for the info. I don't think the north end of the lake should be too choppy unless it's blowing from the south, and I'll just be shorefishing. Definitely first on the list is jerkbaits. I have a feeling I won't need much else, but of course, I'll be equipped  8-)

It would be cool to catch trout, smallies, largies, and pike in the same place.

I grew up on the south end of Seneca. I go back every summer and bring my gear.

You will find a Millfoil bed that starts about when you hit the 5' contour and extends out to about the 15+ contour. Thats where a ton  of smallies and pike live. That weed bed rings the whole lake. Outside of  that weed  bed the lake generally drops off quick to 100'+.  Deepest part of the lake is 650'. Cold water and it can and will get real choppy most days regardless of wind direction. You are dealing with big water.

1/8 and 3/16 oz jigs, finesse worms and lizards, small tubes are your best bet. Live crawdads are great. I prefer spinnerbaits over cranks unless you have a boat and can get to the outside edge of the Milfoil.

Last summer the fishing was really bad, they had a fish kill  the previous winter. I only fish the south end so I don't know how that effected the Geneva end.

Make sure you do some winery tours. They really make some great whites on Seneca.

I was up on Seneca for the week of the 4th... We fished for some bass and pike but mostly we vertical jigged for Lake Trout... There is a great guide up there that is a friend of a friend... He posts some great fishing reports and has an excellent service.... Even if you don't use his services, get some info out of him... I can't post the link to his site because I don't have enough posts yet... Here it is just put the "http" before and the ".com" after...
