Button Bay Champlain

Featured Replies

Staying at the campground there in a few weeks.  Anyone ever fished the area around the campground.  Better places close by I should put the boat in?  Good stories from days out there on the water?

I'll be in Ticonderoga, NY from the 10 thru the 14th.  The water south of button bay is the areas I'm mostly familiar with.  We launch out of either Crown Point, NY under the bridge or at the Ticonderoga Ferry.

There is a launch near the campground, but I would not use it unless you have a very small boat.  It is a gravel launch and very steep.  I have not been to that launch in about 3 years but I doubt it has changed.  There is a launch on Otter Creek on the road down to the campground near a marina, but I don't know if there is a fee.  There is a public launch near the dam in Vergennes or near the mouth of the creek on the other side.  You have to go all the way back to Vergennes to get to it.  If you want more info PM me.

Its just a 14' jon boat I will be launching, pretty sure that qualifies as small.  I sent you a pm.  Thanks

There is some good fishing near there.  I sent you a PM.

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of using the button bay launch.  It is in really bad shape.  I was able to back a tacoma down with a 14' jon but a trailer with a bigger footprint probably would have wound up in a 2 foot eroded ditch.

On a good note the fishing Saturday evening was great.  Thanks to all who sent some advice.

Even with the FLW guys up in Plattsburg running all over the lake, the fishing was very good this past weekend...
