Hi all,

When reading the fall recommendations for fishing, I heard people saying throw big presentations such as swimbaits or big worms.  I was wondering if the spring was a good time to throw some swimbaits as well?  I stocked up with some baits: mattlures (perch, smallie, large mouth), MS Slammer x2, ABT rainbow trout and a king shad.

I want to start fishing these more in the upcoming season, but i dont have too much history with fishing swimbaits.  I was just wondering if the spring is the best time to be throwing them?

I don't see how a gigantic bass cruising the shallows for the first time since winter can pass up a large MS Slammer slowly waking just under the surface.

However, I don't have any experience with big swimbaits. You're a step ahead of me - I still need to stock up. I will be out there this spring throwing big slammers and Hudds.

Another thing to look for in the Spring are local Lakes the DNR stocks with Trout. Alot of states have some type of stocking program. Once you find which lakes, contact the local DNR and ask what kind of Trout was put in and Fish like Swimbaits.

In New York alot of lakes are stocked with 1yr and 2yr. old Rainbows and Browns, so I have Swimbaits that go up to 12 inches for both. This fall I actually followed the Hatchery Truck and saw where they dumped the fish. About 1/2 hour later you started to see the Bass crash on the helpless Trout ;D.

I agree with Bass and Low Bud on the Perch.

You might want to get an original the x'2 sometimes needs to be cranked in a little to fast for a spring presentation.  On the x2's the tail tends to settle off to the side and the originals stand true straight up and down, and can be brought in at a nice slow pain fully slow way. You'll get the full action you will be looking for.

Also if you cant seem to find a rago rat the MS Mini works great too.  I would throw that too.
