ohio boys, little help maybe...

Featured Replies

i am planning a trip to montpelier, ohio in july to vist the family.  the town is in the very northwest corner of the state, ilterally just a few miles from indiana and michigan.  i have spoke to my folks and they named two local lakes, one is lake seneca and the other is oxbow lake.  i dont know anything else about them, what i would like is any info you can provide me.  open to public?  bass fishing any good?  other species?  my brother is planning to have a boat by then and wants to go fishing, he never really has before.  so we are gonna hit the tackle shop so he can let me spend a bunch of his money for him, then we goin fishing!  would like to put a few in the boat for him, so any help would be great.  also, if there is other lakes within a decent drive please let me know!!

thanks

Cliff

ive fished Oxbow once, got alot of bass but the biggest was only 14 1/2 inch. i would either buy a MI or IN license and fish there. we do most of our fishing on one of those two states, but live in OH. check out this site, alot of good info and great guys.. http://fishtalkfishingreports.yuku.com/directory

oxbow lake is a joke!!! i live less than 10 miles from there and fished it often! it is very tempermental when it comes to bass! either they will bite with a few dinks and maybe one keeper or nothing. if you like catfish, that is the place! i dont know how many times i've pitched a jig into brush and come up with a cat! there are way better lakes. one is harrison lake(close to west unity) which is suppossed to be pretty good for bass. i would head to indiana though. that is where i fish 95% one day license is $17. and if you cant find a good lake within 30-40min.(into indiana) from montpelier you might want to visit the eye doc! 12-15 lakes just on the other side of state line. go to lake-links.com   good luck and tight lines!

I have never fished Oxbow and Seneca lake is in Southeast Ohio. I don't have my map books in front of me but, the biggest lake in Ohio is out west. Grand Lake St. Marys' at 10,000 acres is big for here and is a decent fishery. Northwestern Ohio kinda lacks quality lakes. N.E., S.E, and S.W. Ohio has many clusters of good lakes that produce good bass. The northwest corner has the least tournies for that reason. When the date gets closer post again and maybe we can meet up at Erie or another lake worth fishing. Why come here and not try to catch some Erie smallies? We are nowhere near the size of Texas you could be on the other side of the state in a couple of hours and on the fish.
