My buddy who lives on Long Pond in Lakeville (which I'm going to hit up for sure) said that Assawompset is not legal for people to fish, unless you live on the pond???????????   That makes no sense to me.  It seems to have public land around it.....  He says that friends have had guns drawn on them by some sort of law enforcement for fishing there.  I'm looking at the property maps and it seems that about 3/4 of the shoreline is municipal land....  Does my buddy know what he's talking about?  I don't see how anyone can tell you not to fish on public land.  

Yes you can fish it from land.Not sure if all areas are open.I think the area you can fish is called something neck.I hear that it's a long walk,but the fishing is great.
