Just moved to Western Mass...

Recommended Posts

I recently graduated from college and just moved to Western Mass, from Western NY, to take a new job...I moved out last week and will be training in Milford for the next few weeks, but after that I will be working in the Berkshires, and I will live in in Westfield.

Due to all of the jumping around I have been doing, I had to leave my bass boat at my parents house in NY, but of course I still need to bass fish, so if anybody needs someone to fish with in the Western Mass area I wil gladly fill a seat and chip in for expenses.

I have been doing open tournaments the last 5 summers in NY and I would love to do team tournaments out here if anyone needs a partner anytime.

I am not familiar with the bass fishing out here but I see that there are many small lakes around and I hear that they are good bass fisheries, but acess is very limited due to HP restrictions...I would love to hear back from some of you Mass fisherman. thank you.

:)

Definitely check out the Quabbin Reservoir if you can. Boat rentals are less than $30 a day, which isn't too bad for the best smallie fishing in MA. Get out there early though, rentals go fast! And make sure to bring a transom mount trolling motor and anchor, it can get windy out there.

I've heard this before, but I've never had trouble getting a boat. I usually go in the afternoon though so maybe everyone is back in by then.

Tuckman, you should definitely check the DFW pond maps in Massachusetts. Just google "mass pond maps" and you'll find them.

EDIT: What part of the Finger Lakes are you from? My girlfriend is from Geneva and I'm supposed to go fishing with her dad this summer. He said there are some bass in Seneca Lake and he was talking about some canal out there that had bass too.

Thanks for the input guys, I have been looking up all the lakes and there are tons of small lakes that look pretty good...I even got my hands on a little motor that should be perfect for some of these smaller ponds.

T-2000, I actually could see Seneca lake from my house...I grew up just outside of Watkins Glen on the south end of Seneca Lake, IMO Bass fishing on Seneca lake in the summer should be avoided at all cost lol, there are plenty of smallies in Seneca but after they spawn they are extremely hard to find...in the the last few weekend series tournies out there seems like maybe 3 guys break 10lb bags. In June and in October Seneca can have a great bite though....On the other hand Cayuga, Keuka, and Canadaigua lakes are very close to Geneva and are all awesome bass fisheries all season.

Thanks again for the input guys

Hello Tuckman,

Lake Congamond is in the the neighboring town of Southwick. You probably live only a half-hour away from the north boat launch.

It can get busy as the boating & jet-ski season starts to pick-up but there is some great largemouth fishing. There are several tournaments (if that your thing) all season and a Thursday night bass club.

Send me a P.M. if you want more info.

The Connecticut River is also has great fishing.
