I doubt there are shad in that reservoir, thats probably why you've never seen one.

It might not be the reservoir you are thinking of

I wasn't thinking of any specific reservoir, shad are just typically found in rivers in NJ and i haven't heard of any reservoirs in NJ with shad.  As for the baitfish i'm gunna guess herring, but you'd be better off asking a local, but most of the reservoirs up north NJ have herring.

What Reservoir?  Manasquan?  If so, I recall herring and gizzard shad in there.

I do fish Manasquan once in a while. Never caught anything there, but have seen a few fish follow my lures. Including a Muskie.

I do fish up north as well. So maybe I will look into some Herring, and Gizzard style lures.
