Anyone Fish Messalonskee Lake (AKA Snow Pond) in ME?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone fished the Belgrade lake region in Maine?  Specifically Messalonskee Lake?  This is my first time to Maine and I was wondering if you guy's had any tips?  The past 5 years we've always gone to Canada for our yearly fishing trip and I was wondering how the fishing is in Maine?  We've always had a great fishing trip in Canada with crankbaits and spinner baits (mostly largemouth, but some pike in there as well), but this year we wanted to try a new place.  I've heard some pretty good things about fishing in Maine especailly for smallies, are there any more species we should target?    From what I've been reading it look like there are a lot of trout up there as well, is that true?  Any tips for Maine trout?  We will be mainly be targeting smallies, largies and pike (our usual targets), so any help you guy's can give is GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks!!

You picked a good lake for your vacation, you've got a real shot at catching a PB largemouth smally or pike on Messolonski. I believe there are trout and salmon as well but they will be deep and tough to catch unless you plan for early and late trolling hours

Go fish Great Pond that is close to Mess. GREAT smallie action with big largemouth and Pike as well. Your going to be staying in the area of "several " great lakes..... Long Pond, Salmon/McGrath, Great Pond, Mess., North Pond and East Pond... I hope you have a great trip...

I got back a few days ago from Messalonskee Lake and.......this place was GREAT!!!!!  Such a great fishery (unfortunately it was for everything but LMB).  I was there all week with my family (Mom and Dad) and had a wonderful time in ME.  We've never been to ME before and it was better then I expected.  You guy's in ME have some really nice fishing areas!  I can't wait to go back next year!!

Now for our week totals:

-4 Nice size Northern Pike (the largest was 36 inches 15lbs)

-8 decent size Northern Pike

-3 SMB (the largest was 2lbs)

-12 Chain Pickerel

-18 Yellow Perch

-1 Crappie

I will post some pictures when I get my camera back from my parents......really I just want the picture of the Pike I caught  :(

If any of you guy's go to Messalonskee Lake, just let me know.  I did a fishing Diary and mapped all of the spots where we caught fish on the map of the lake.
