Fishing in Maine?
Damariscotta is a pretty lake with good smallmouth and largemouth fishing. It is close to Pemiquid beach state park and Boothbay Harbor so that you can get the best of Coastal Maine for both you and your wife. In the western Maine mountains there is Kezar Lake; also good fishing for both small and largemouth with mountain activities and nearby north conway NH for dining and shopping

Early Spring fishing in Maine...what to use?
Ice has been out for more than a month. Early spring is mostly over and the fish are in prespawn with a lot of fish up. Fish docks and rocks and wood with jigs tubes or senkos and fish the transitions and flats with jerk baits cranks or spinnerbaits. Its been warm all week and water is going to be into the mid 50's and more by the weekend. Next two or three weeks is prime time for a giant

best pound test for smallies?

New englanders - what to do with all this rain?
I would choose natural lakes rather than rivers or reservoirs. Smallies often stack in front of inlets and they should be checked out. Throw a jerk bait all day and you will catch fish with a slow cadence. Fish will hit during the pause and will usually be a subtle tick like a worm or jig bite. If your wrist and elbow aren't burning at the end of the day your not doing it right or enough

best pound test for smallies?
Where are you finding the yozuri? I am having a devil of a time finding the bigger 600-1000 yard size of hybrid that I have always used. Don't care much for the ultra soft and the small spools seem to waste too much. I pretty much use 6lb 10lb and 20lb yozuri depending on the bait more than type of fish.

Candlewood Lake CT
I don't know the lake well enough yet to give advise but found Live Earth to be very helpful for Candlewood. The satellite shots were taken during draw down so give you a good view of the bottom and likely spawn areas and shallow cover.

If you could ask Denny Brauer a question.......
Ask him: Why did he stop doing his TV show "Schooled with Denny Brauer". That has to be one of the better shows ever done

Sebago Lake in ME
Here is a map of the area around Pt Sebago. I like black and blue jigs and senkos around docks and wood in the areas circled for lgmouth and crigged watermelon lizards for smallies if you can find sand and deep grass. There are a bunch of way points shown that you can try drop shot (smelt are primary forage)

how do you guys organize your soft plastics?
Works for me. I use gallon sized freezer bags and a sharpie. I have one each for senkos, tubes, lizards, drop shot and worms.

Moving to the Boston Area
I fished a tournament on the Charles river last summer. It was interesting fishing though headway speed throughout. Don't think that there are many fish bigger than 3lbs but could be wrong. A steady stream of cute joggers passing through broke up the day

Question about outboard motor hp for small boat
I have used a 5 hp on my bass hunter. More than 1/4 throttle and it was pretty sketchy and I am sure the transom didn't care for it. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again because that is what i have but would be real careful with speed. If I was buying one for the boat I would go with the 3hp that it is rated

When to call it quits...?
This time of year you need to pick your days and dress for the weather. I avoid the wind when the water is in the 40's and usually don't start until 11 or so. My last day on the water last season in Maine was December 29th. I struggle in October when the water temp is falling quickly though it can be an opportunity for a GIANT. The fishing actually gets better for me or rather more predictable as it stabilizes in the low 40's. November is an awesome time to be outdoors and remember every minute your on the water late your making winter all that much shorter.

Jig or Peg?
Build your own jig and they'll be 50 cents a piece; then you wont mind throwing them to where the big girls live

Fall / Spring Gloves
Old School Wool fingerless gloves will keep your hands warm even when wet and at $10 a pair you can have several. I usually have snowmobile mitts for runs on the out board. If it is really cold medical or food service vinyl gloves will help some and won't effect your fishing feel much
