Rochester, NY Fishing spots?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I'm new to the site, and fairly impressed already.

I've gotten my wife interested in fishing. She wants me to take her fishing, but we don't have a boat. My usual spots aren't getting many bites lately, and I want to give her the best chance to catch something other than weeds. You guys/gals have any spots near Rochester NY where we can fish from "shore" where we might have some luck?

Thanks in advance!

Haven't been personally, however I hear mendon ponds is pretty decent for shore catching.

The Pond Just north of where the 390 splits to the 590 has some hawgs in it as well.

For not too expensive of a day, (and a great lead into why you should purchase one someday) you can rent a boat out at sodus bay, where you can kill em off the points either drop shotting finess worms or jerking a fluke.

For best success I buy every color that is Green Pumpkin.  *** 5"ers or Senkos work well.

I live in Fairport, theres about 15-20 ponds near the Fairport Landfill, some really good bass fishing in there. I'm there at least 3 or 4 times a week and usually the fish are biting.

In irondequoit there are ponds in durand park. These ponds are good through the end of spring. Have pulled a couple of 6# hogs out of it along with many in the 2-3 range. May and June are the best months there, fish with a texas rigged tube and a 1/8-1/4oz weight, also trick sticks work great. After june the weeds move in and the only fishing you can do is on a spro frog.

A lot of good information from you guys! I really appreciate it. I'm heading out today to hit a bunch of them. I'll let you know how I do.

Let us know how you do and where you went. I plan on going this weekend.
