  1. Thanks guys, I will take a look tonight and try playing around with it.
  2. I decided to upgrade a few reels with a revo and a couple pfluegers. I made sure when spooling them to keep tension on the line. Problem is no matter how I adjust the mech brake I get backlashes. I have always in the past set the brake where the lure I am using just ever so slightly (and I mean slightly) drops when the release is pressed. I tried that and got a few backlashes. I tightened the brake a bit and the same result. I loosened the brake and you guessed it, backlash. Someone please tell me what is going on. Like I said I have used the same reels for the past 6-7 years and have never had a problem like this. Edit: I forgot to mention there are no mag brakes on these reels.
  3. Welcome, Rochester here as well.
  4. No worries as I e-mailed lurecraft directly and they gave me a few different methods for properly getting them on. Not sure why you had a problem with sharing information with someone just looking to get into it and make a few for personal use but thats your choice.
  5. Has anyone here used guides on Lake Murray they would recommend? My parents just recently moved there and I was thinking of getting my father a guided trip for his b-day so he can get to know the waters a bit better. Thanks
  6. This may be a stupid question but what dictates using a drop shot over a carolina rig?
  7. Nice looking baits. Question for you, what did you use to attach the eyes?
  8. dmac, I just noticed in your sig you are part of the Rochester Bassmasters, I joined this past Jan. Seems like a good group of guys.
  9. Trolling motor or padle power. In the summer it gets tough to use a trolling motor in there as the weeds come right up to the top almost all over.
  10. I was thinking about heading out to the Durand Ponds or Mendon Ponds this weekend or next. I havent had a chance to get out yet, I cant wait. Does anyone know if you can put small boats in the Durand Ponds? I have only fished from the bank and now that I have a pelican with a trolling motor I was curious.
  11. I'm in
  12. Do these have any effect on the action of the lures?
  13. I agree with B-hoggin, but B, he said he doesn't wear ANY sunglasses AT ALL right now.......... doubt he'll jump at the first 200 dollar pair. Any sunglasses are better than no sunglasses at all. (mejor que nada). ...... especially on the water. (talk about eye fatigue....) I tried sunglasses once or twice at most when I was younger but I felt it was just to dark. It might be because in general I just dont wear sunglasses ever and my eyes need to adjust? I will talk to some of the guys I fish with to see if they have some and if I might be able to try it on the water for a few hours.
  14. Its funny I look at some of the images posted and cant make out anything. Even when people point out what it is I still have trouble sometimes. When it comes time to purchase one of these units I will be taking all the seminars I can find.
  15. A litte ot but do you find that polarized glasses help that much? Sorry for such a dumb question but I have never used sun glasses polarized or not while fishing. Are there cheaper options for polarized sun glasses out there that work well?
  16. Both work equally well for me. I will fish what the conditions call for, but there is something about throwing a lipless that I love over the spinnerbait.
  17. I have been fishing since I could walk and I am now in my mid 30's. This year for the first time I am joining a club to fish tournaments and would like some honest advice. I have always caught my fair share of fish on all of the equipment I have. I do not own the most expensive gear nor do I think I ever will. Right now I am set up with (3) 6'-6" All Star rods with two pflueger bait casters and one shimano bait caster. My other rod is a browning spinning rod with spinning reel. Usually I use the spinning rod for lighter or finesse fishing. The other three I throw anything and everything on these from worm, crankbait, spinnerbait, jerkbait.....etc. So my question again is how important is choosing the correct rod and reel for the application you intend to use? I have no illusions of grander that I will be fishing in the classic but am I missing out by maybe using a rod that should have been 6" longer or a different action or having the improper gear ratio on the reel. Sorry for the long post, and sorry its probably a stupid question.
  18. I have the pelican 10' and it weighs 147 lbs. It is pretty easy to load and unload into a pickup. Here in NY if you use a motor be it electric or gas, it needs to be registered.
  19. I have the bass raider 10e and couldnt be happier. It is plenty stable to stand and can go anywhere. I have had it out on Lake Ontario with no problems. As mentioned above its the conditions not the size fo the water that counts.
  20. My parents just bought a house on Lake Murray and I am heading down in early November for vacation and fishing. While I am down there and can try to find out some information for you in the spring.
  21. Thanks for the info. My parents own a home on the lake as well in Chapin and my dad will be bringing up the boat up. I will be there in early November and can let you know if and what we have any luck on.
  22. Has anyone here fished Lake Murray with any success? My parents just got a house down there and I plan on being there in early November for a week and would like to get out a few times.
  23. Good luck. There's no shortage of bass in there, but I haven't had much luck with them the last couple of years. However, a friend just bought a kayak a couple of weeks ago and he got a half-dozen decent bass on its maiden voyage. I asked him what he used and he said Banjo Minnow, so maybe soft jerkbaits could be a good option. I had a nice bass on a horny toad today, I am guessing 2-3 lbs. I was out there for about an hour and a half starting around 2 and I was surprised at how much activity there was for the time of day I was out there, I had about 3 or 4 misses. I will have to see if i have any banjo minnows, maybe I will give those a try next time.
  24. Well I got the boat all registered on Friday, not as bad as I thought. I went fishing this morning at the deep pond in Mendon Ponds Park. I was on the water at 6 and fished till about 8. I started out throwing a horny toad and texas worm, I wasnt getting anything so I switced to a spinnerbait. Within the first 5 min of throwing it I had a fish on, it plled hard and I thought I had a decent bass. Nope, just a pike at 24" long. Had another Pike on in about 15 min and this one was bigger. It completly destroyed my spinner bait, and it was brand new. So no bass but two Pike, I guess better then nothing but a bit disappointing. Tomorrow I plan on trying the 100 Acre pond and hope to get some bass, we will see.
