Edited:  OK so you apparently need a membership to enter that lake, so nevermind.  Any other fishing spots out there? I'll be traveling out of NE philadelphia.

I'll be visiting PA this weekend and the only lake I can find on the map, (besides rivers flowing in/out of philly) is Van Sciver lake in bucks county. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience on this lake or fished it recently? Or maybe if there are any better freshwater spots in the philadelphia area?  

Your best best bet might be Core Creek Park just outside of Newtown. It is about 25 - 30 minutes from NE Philly.

The Deleware River this time of year could get you some migrating striped bass. There are quite a few places with access to shore fishing. Neshaminy State park, Station Avenue park, Linden Avenue park. At the Corner of Linden Ave and State road is a little bait shop that has been around for ever, if nothing else they could point you somewhere.

Van Sciver is one of three lakes that make up Penn Warner. It is a private fishing club. You can fish Nocomixon, a state park. You can also fish Marsh Creek, another state park. MC can be very productive.
