Maryland boating regs

I want to take an electric trolling motor powered canoe (16.5ft) on the Upper Potomac this weekend. What kind of equipment/requirements do I need to make sure I have/fulfill to avoid a ticket in MD.

The boat is registered in VA.

I think your VA license is ok to use but not sure.

I had my boat checked once and they looked for the following. I doubt you need all this for a canoe but...

1. Have to wear PFD at all times up until sometime in May I think.

2. Throwable float

3. emergency flares

4. beer

might want a paddle in case your motor fails.

Hey Dan+,

Here's a link to MD's DNR boating page. This should answer all your questions (I didn't want to miss anything).

Where were you putting in? I'm planning on getting out this saturday (somewhere in Washington county, hadn't decided where yet).
