Black Moshannon State Park, Cetral Pa

Featured Replies

Anyone ever fish there? I might head over there this weekend and need some tips. I think it has a bunch of lilypads so i might try topwater.

Sorry, can't help you with that one ;) I do want to get there this season though. Let me know how you do.

Just approach it like you would any other lake, most smaller lakes in the region all fish the same. I would agree with you to try topwater if there are a lot of pads, especially frogs. If all else fails, texas rig a senko and move it so slow you think it isn't moving at all :P

Hello,I have fished up there a few times. The water up there looks like iced tea,due to the bog area around the park.(I know there is a word for that but it escapes me at the moment)There are alot of pads, we have done well with topwater,t-rigged worms, and frogs. There are some really nice bass up there, and it doesn't get fished much. We are headed up there Monday morning.Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Funny about that Iced tea effect and I'm not sure about the bog cause I see Pinchot and Sweet Arrow looking the same way and neither had this color 20 years ago and the headwaters don't have that look either. I'm thinking fungus or pollution leakage. Can't get answers on that subject .

Ya,the word I was looking for was Tatanic.I know it is a great place to fish.along with all the pads there are a couple of beaver huts and some nice structure.

The word is TANIC. It generally is found in lakes in our area with large amounts of pine trees. If I understand right it is caused by tanic acid from the decay of pine products in the water.

Try red shad or smoke with blue and gold flake...seems to work for me on lakes with that color.

Thanks for setting me straight on my spelling Whoopbazz. We fished at "Blackie" last Monday, caught a couple of nice bass.My buddy said he has never seen that many lily pads.It is a neat place to fish.

Hey guys I've fished up there a few times and have not had much luck. I was wondering what's the best technique. I know topwaters work around the lily pads but that's about it. Also, are there any bass down by the dam? Im having a picnic down there and I thought I'd try to get lunch down at that end of the lake.

Yes there are bass down by the dam at Blackie.I don't know what you will find up there now,the lake level might still be down.Try t-rigged purple worms or anything like that.Good Luck, let us know how you make out. Oh also fish out in front of the fishing pier about mid-lake.

Well guys I went out for about 4 hours and didn't get a thing. I tried t-rigged worms, topwaters, crankbaits, livebait... just about everything there is, and nothing..The water actually wasn't down but it was crystal clear for once. Maybe I'll have better luck next time.

there are some really big bass in black mo.. i've caught 3 over 5lbs in the past 2 years.. but there aren't a lot of bass.... it does have tons of pickeral and the occasional small pike. in real early spring you can hammer the pickeral on a small buzzbait, sometime its almost every cast if you get the timing right, before the lilly pads get too thick.
