Best crankbait for brush??

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a crankbait that I can throw into some nasty stuff and work it through.  What I want the bait to do is be a substitute for a spinnerbait at times, or for a little different look.  I'd really like it to run in the 4' range, however would be vary interested in series of baits that can run say 2', 4', 6' and 8' or a 2-4 and a 6-8.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Steve

The best I've used is the LC RC 1.5. It dives to 4 feet, and is very effective at deflecting off brush and other cover.

Lucky Craft Rick Clun 2.5

Manns C4 and Manns-1

Norman FatBoy

That should get you started.

Bomber Fat A, Bandit footloose, worden's timber tiger.

I have probably 20 of the RC .5's and 1.5's and I also have a few of the Big Daddy's too, just wondering if there are some better baits out there so keep your opinions coming.

I haven't found the Mann's Baby 1- to be extremely well suited for brush, however for $4 a guy can afford to loose a few of them, and I probably already own at least 2 of every color they have but I mostly use them around weeds or over weeds.

Thanks all,

Steve

I agree with the Bandit footloose and the Bandit 100.

The previously mentioned bandits and the rapala DT FAT series.

In brush the best crank to use is square billed, and a lot of different brands will work, but I like bomber square A's.

My best heavy cover shallow crank last year was one of Marty Burns' (aka Big M) 1/2" stock flatsided cranks.

A lot of people think of flatsided baits being for open water - - here's where I fished it....you have to stay on your toes a little more with flatsided cranks around cover, but at times it's really worth it.

The aforementioned LC RC's are killer too....

As far as "Best"......there's so many killer cranks out there, I'm not sure I could ever label one as the "best."

My favorite baits right now are coming from Big M, Jawjacker, Flatshad, D-Bait, Brian's (Little Bee), Richard Manley (RAM Baits), and Zoom WEC.   There's others working their way up the list, but there's just so many cranks and so little time to get to know them all!   :)
