questions about my home lake

Featured Replies

My home lake is 250 acres, manmade, and only 8 feet deep. It is known as being a good bass lake. I know bass move from deeper to shallow water depending on water temp and pre spawn, spawn etc. I was wondering is 8 feet deep still considered shallow water. The lake has no steep drops or ledges, no creeks in flowing, but it does have lots of vegetation( the whole lake bottom is weeds), and a decent amount of timber and stumps. Any thoughts, or how to break down the breedind cycle and where they would be would be great

Is the water stained or clear?  Mostly mud/muck bottom?  I would be targeting the isolated stumps and timber once the water warms into the high 40's and 50's.  Most bass will choose a hard structure like a boulder/stump to spawn near.

the water has a green tinge, you could see about 2 feet down, and the bottom is really mucky, and soft. It's in Northeast Pennsylvania, so I wont be fishing for another month or so.

If that ice is off I would be on it! it will warm up quick!

Throw a trap or a spinner bait! try slow and fast retreives, until you get them to bite I have been fishing 39 degree water and catching them in less than 5 ft of water. aim at the bank make a bunch of casts you WILL catch a big fish when its cold if they are in there.....  good luck and tight lines!!!
