When to start with frogs???

I am new to the frog bait. I just want to know when you start fishing them?  Pre spawn, spawn, or post spawn?

Thanks, for any info

Throw them once the grass mats are thick.  I throw a YUM buzzfrog over the thickest mats I can find or in lillpads with a steady slow retrieve with occaisional pauses.  This is typically a summer pattern, it works great early in the mornings.  I have never tried throwing a frog in the prespawn or spawn but it might work in lillypads.

You can fish them in prespawn but not too early, wait till the water gets to the mid 40's. They also work good in right before the spawn when the fish are staging and are chasing down that last meal before the spawn.

I've seen some BIG bass come clean out of the water hitting stuff on top in the tullies the last 2 trips out. I'm throwin a frog or Hula Popper in the early hours next time I'm out (probably next weekend due to projected rain).

Once water temps are around 60, should start seeing a few frog fish, then the warmer it gets the better.

Dean Rojas states that you can throw a frog year round  but i start using them as soon as i start seeing them on the bank and in the pads and that

I fished an early spring tournament on the upper Mississippi river a few years ago and I was catching them on frogs. This was in early April (start of the season for us) and the water was still pretty cold. I was fishing around clumps of dead lilly pads. One thing I learned that day is to fish frogs really slow when it is cold. Two of my keepers crushed the bait as it was just sitting there while I was trying to warm up my hands.

I love frogs.  I dont start throwing them till probobly post spawn but you never know how it might turn out during the spawn.  There great big bass catchers so give them a try.

When the water temp is above 50 degrees.  But as a good rule of thumb: hearing them croaking at night, frogs fishing is right.
