My father-in-law is thinking about planning a trip down to Reelfoot the last weekend in February.  Anyone know what the fishing is usually like that time of the year?  Thanks for your help.

I'm gonna bump this bad boy back to the top cuz My dad and I are also planning a trip to reelfoot during the third week of may.  I was just hoping to get a few pointers and maybe a prediction of what phase the fish will be in by then... I'd assume probably post spawn.  Also techniques or tactics people like there, I've heard its basically a drowned forest so to speak.

I'm going there 3-6 April for the crappie fishing. I will get some local info while I'm there. This is my first trip to Reelfoot. I'm not even going to take any bass gear with me. If I did, well you know. Keep this thread active and I will tell you what I learn............Al

I have been to Reelfoot a couple of times but never fished it, used to go to UT Martin and would take the ladies out there late at night and...nevermind.  Anyway's, from everything I hear the crappie fishing at reelfoot is always good, if you really want to get in them your going about a month or two early.  If your going to bass fish, go somewhere else.

I hate the lake personally but you can catch some real nice fish there. Strike King hosts a tournament there each fall. If you're going for bass fishing try the washout or Kirby's pocket. Be ready to get yourself off a million stumps. It's ridiculous and the only reason I hate the lake. Black and Blue jigs are a staple, as well as jigging spinnerbaits. The lake is shallow. A great majority of the lake is under 10 ft. Fish the standing timber and the supports of the duck blinds and you should fair well. As for the end of May it all depends on the water temp. Weeds and pads should be good then...
