The Right Weight

Featured Replies

Hi, I am still the newbie. I have another question. What is the best size weight to get for Texas/Carolina Rigging? Also for jigging? I want to get my set up right. Thanks ;)

As a GENERAL rule of thumb, try to use the lightest weight possible for the conditions you are fishing with Texas rigs and jigs.  Take into consideration the wind, depth, and the targeted cover you are fishing.  As far as carolina rigging, I normally use a 1/2 oz. weight, but use 3/4 and up to an ounce depending on depth, wind and grass.  I'm sure others will have suggestions as well, so you'll just have to experiment and let the fish tell you what and how they want it.

Water depth and rate of fall is what you base your weight on.

If you combine ring fry & Bass-Brat's answer your dead on  ;)

As a general rule of thumb, for t-rig I use 1/4 oz down to 12-15' then I use 3/8 oz 15+'.  And of course there are always exceptions, but this might give you a starting point.
