What to use now?

Featured Replies

I'm pretty new to fishing larger lakes nad I'm really stuggling to get on fish right now. Tha water is about 58 degrees. Where do I need to fish? What lures are really work? How deep? I've caught small fish about every situation but not anything good. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have sonar on your boat ?

Welcome to BR - the premier and BEST bass fishing forum on the Net, IMO!  The water temps were in the same range when we went out here in So CA mid February and we were catching bass on jigs with 4" coffee colored tubes and spin tail worms in 12' - 20' of water about 20 feet from the shoreline. We saw lots of fish on structure (i.e. rock formations and mounds) in around 30' - 40' of water. Drop shot rigs with Senkos should produce in those situations. IF you can ascertain the depth of the water you are fishing, I'd recommend drop shot rigs and jigs fished slow. Let us know how you do. Hard to beat those Senkos, Tiki Sticks, and tubes, IMO!

Note: per RW's recommendation, I'm also gonna fish those Fat Ikas until I catch me a lunker:o)

i had 57° water yesterday and the fish were holding about 6 feet deep in 11 foot of water. i caught a few on crankbaits that dove to the depth they were holding. theyre might have been better options, but cranks got me a few.

The fish should be shallow, especially if the day is sunny. Look for flats with quick access to deep water.

The fish should move up to spawn any time soon(lay eggs) so fish the banks or large flats with cover on them. Stumps, logs, weeds, rocks, ect.  Fish in 10 to 2 feet of water approx. Use slow presentations with any baits that allow you to do this. If you have any questions click on my name and send me a message.

58 degrees?!?! Your lucky, I had 39-41. I would suggest a suspending crank that you can work very slowly like a Rapala JR-7 or 9. Im not 100% sure which one I use :-?
