Atlanta Largemouth Honey Hole

Recommended Posts

If any of you are natives of Atlanta, you've probably heard Murphy Chandler Lake in Dunwoody has no fish. Well this is WRONG! I pulled out a 5pound / 22" largemouth and saw a guy weigh in a 11pound largemouth. Just a heads up for anyone looking for an "urban" honey hole.

Wow, I've fished it atleast 10 or so times. Never managed any kind of bass before. Must not be throwing the right stuff. Though I've caught a nice crappie before off a shaky head under the bridge.  Please e-mail me pics. if you don't mind.  Thanks.

yea they drained it about four years ago, used to fish it all the time after ball games and stuff. there were some massive carp and coy sitting out in the muck. i know they stalked it after that. only fished it afew times since then and didnt catch all that much.

so when they stocked murphy chandler, how big were the bass? i'm still baffled how a lady pulled out a 11pounder a few weeks ago. :-?

i wasnt there for the actual stocking, so i dont really know.  There was always some water at the base of the dam so they mightve stayed there.  I do know that there were some guys who stacked wooden boards ontop of the muck so they could scoop the fish up as they drained out of the lake.  They said they might put some of the bass in one of the pools back in the swamps above the lake.  I really have no way of knowing for sure though.

I could go with the 22 inches... but I find it very hard to believe there was a 5 pounder.. .much less an 11.  The lake was drained and restocked WAY too recently to grow any fish of that size even in perfect conditions.  The bass in those pics look all of 3 or 4 pounds; very good for the amount of time the bass have had to grow.  As for the 11, I don't believe it a bit... unless by some off chance somebody transplanted a very large bass into Murph which I highly doubt

Nice to see some fish coming out of that lake.  I have never had any luck there, but have not really given it any pressure.  I may have to splash my canoe in there, since it is only 5 minutes from me too.

Looks like we have a few from Brookhaven & Sandy Springs on the board.
