Lake Manassas

Featured Replies

Anyone know the story behind that? I thought it was public resevior but now private because the only public access has been closed?  On the DGIF site, it said it was closed due to terroist threats, intro of zebra mussel species, etc.  What a load of BS.  I think the residents there threw it in to lock people out and keep it to themselves.

There is no access because the land that VDGIF was leasing got sold.  None of the remaining property owners want to lease land to VDGIF so it will remain a private lake now.

I thought the City of Manassas won't allow ANYONE to fish this lake, even land owners. I have friends that live in that area and they've told me that land owners aren't even allowed to fish it or launch boats into it. They believe it's because of the rich folk at the golf course side don't want people fishing the lake, and since big tournies are held there the city came up with some bogus claims to close it off. This is just what i've been told and also what i've read while researching the lake.

I always thought that zebra needed hard surfaces to fix themselves on. Not that i've ever been on the lake ::) but i thought Lake manassas is largly a lake with soft bottom .

EDIT: Here's a link to a site where this guy is hating on the City's regulations on the lake.

Nobody, 'cept us, want to be watching a nationally televised golf tournie with Tiger Woods preparing to swing and at the same time me shirtless in the background boating a dink.  :P

I lived about 5 minutes away from the old ramp to Lake Manassas. When they shut it down I was kinda happy about it. Not that I didn't want to fish but that lake was so fished out it wasn't funny. They didn't disclose exactly why it was shut down until a year or so ago. From what I was told they shut it down becuase of the golf tournaments they hold there on the golf course. I figured after the tourney was over they would open it back up. But they are unable to open it since all the rich people that live in that neighborhood are all in the home owners association and they are not aloud to lease out their property to put in a ramp.

Those frickin' home owners Associations really suck. I do have a friend of mine who fishes the lake from his family's resisdent and he seems to really catch alot of fish!!

If anyone knows how we can get on the lake let me know too!!

I've also caught quite a few bass on Lake Manassas.  I have a friend that lives off the water and this is where i got started bass fishing.  The stories he tells me makes it more and more tempting to put my yak in it.  :D

Shoot, I'd be happy with just fishing the lower part of the lake and having them make the upper part near the golf course off limits! Maybe a fishermen got hit by a stray ball and sued the City!  ;D  That HAS to be the reason, it's the only one that makes sense!!!!!

can you imagine if it did open back up? it'd be a mad house and would be so pressured and over fished in the first month or two, i've met people with access and they do confirm it is a paradise right now, now that i think about it i hope it stays closed

and i meet someone who gives me access  8-)

Okay Trev..... take me with you!!!!
