Dusk/night fishing anyone?

Featured Replies

I've really been envious of you guys that have been able to find time to get out fishing during the day, but that's not my world right now.  I put my daughters down to bed right around 8pm every night.  That's usually the earliest I can get out.  It really takes some planning for me to get out during the day.  Anyway, I was out at lake Barton along the dam Sat. eve. around 7:45.  I pulled up something big to the surface but it spat out my senko at the rocks.  Man did that thing make a splash!  I had a couple other strikes but was only able to land a little catfish.  Barton seems to be hot now, (considering that Sat. was the first time all year that I've even had a strike there)

Rob says that Royal is picking up too.  Cooling water temps maybe?

Anyone up for some evening fishing? 8-11pm or so?  I'll hit any of the Burke area lakes.

When? I was actually thinkin about this last night. I want to get in on this evening buzzbait action I keep hearing about.

sounds like i'm fishing. :) let me check with the ball and chain and I'll get back to you. :P

X2 on Royal picking up, relative to August that is. I caught two tweeners (between a dink and a keeper) there last night, but nothing hit the Cavitron. The first was caught on a Zoom Fat Albert, the second on a Rage Tail Shad.  The guy near me caught three or four, he was using a popper. Keep me posted, I'd love to go Friday night.  I'd say the bite at Mercer has been similar of late.

I'm in! LETS DO THIS!!!!!!! How's royal on a boat at night? scurry?

I'm game.......Where???

I'm partial to Barton, Woodglenn or Royal.

It looks like I'll be able to get out early too!  My wife is taking the kids in to DC to visit her sister which means I have the night off. :)

I have a boat and Rob has a boat I know... Burke lake sounds good to me Friday night....

depending on the rain, I love fishing in the rain but not in my boat, as it's a jon converted into a bass boat and gets REALLY heavy when wet and is a ***** to cover...

i definately didn't say pregnant dog, sweet censorship on here...

I was instant messaging Andrew at work yesterday and I think we agreed on Burke Lake.  He'll pull my boat to it's maiden voyage.  Not sure about the weather though.  How will the fish respond to the rain this time of year?  Rob and Trevor? Are you guys in?

I'm in for Royal as previously suggested, Burke Lake would be sweet but with the pretty much guarantee of heavy and consitent rain i'd rather not get the boat out, it's a whole "to do".  I say Royal after 7 or so, as of now there is a gap between 8-10 of no rain, but who really knows.  Last time we had those heavy rains i caught my best fish of the year right in between rains.

Crap weather wins out.  Andrew and I pretty much decided on Royal this morning.  I'll be out as early as I can... possibly as early as 5:30.

Rob and I came to the same consensus... Royal it is I have no idea when i'll be there, best case scenario 5:30, most likely 6:30-7, worst case, never... cause i died speeding to get there.

Some advice, I've been rousted from Royal twice this summer after dark (I was fishing) by the Fairfax police.  This "crackdown" is in response to local residents requests to do something about loud parties near this very cul de sac, and the general litter left by such parties and inconsiderate anglers (we had a thread about this earlier on BR, but it was deleted).  When parking, just consider parking your vehicle as if you live near the cul de sac, e.g. parallel parking where residents park.  I say this due to conversations with the officers who rousted me: basically, they will check the cul de sac for cars that look as if they are using the Lake.  If they don't see any such cars, they will just go on their merry way.  Its worked for me lately. They also said, in so many words, that we anglers are not who they are looking for.  There is also a residents patrol that was coming around Royal in August: they haven't tried to roust me and the head guy seems reasonable. Anyway, if you aren't planning to fish after dark, this is all moot.

The cul de sac I'm talking about in the previous post is the one near the manhole cover.  Its called Chatsworth something.

Good advice.  I'll be sure to park a ways back on the street rather than right at the entrance to the trail.

Paul, it was good seeing you again.  Mudkart it was great meeting you, you have a great sense of humor..... Andrew, nice reel but it being a lefty made my feel like Ray Charles trying to return a serve from Pete Sampres.... ;D . Trevor, nice rod. Handles fish like a champ.......How much did you pay for it????

So how did you guys make out?  Did anyone catch anything?

We should definitely do this again, less the rain.

Mudkart caught a 2.5lber early at Royal. We left and went to a different body of water to escape the weeds in Royal. There Trev and Flippin4it hooked up with some nice ones. flippin4it biggest came while we were all just standing around each other chit chattin. It was nice seeing everyone again and great to meet Mudkart.

No pics fellas? C'mon, show me what I'm missing

x2 night fishing sounds fun

No pic of mine, I'm a dinosaur when it comes to photography: no cell phone, no digital camera, just a disposable camera.  So, I didn't consider a 2.5 lber pic worthy.  Trevor can vouch for the catch, however (I was using a Rebel popper).  Rob's was pic worthy, and someone has a cell phone pic of it.  That was the biggest bass I've seen taken from these local ponds, with the caveat that I'm relatively knew to the area.

Nice to meet all of you to, and thanks to Trevor (and yourself) for taking us to Trevor's home waters.  I'm coming for that "H.A.W.G."  ;) you caught some night (if that's OK Trevor?).
