There used to be a yearly tournament held out at the Okee Tantie marina back in the late 80's to mid 90's.  The tournament was for first responders such as law enforcement, fire rescue, emt's, etc.  One of the persons had to be a first responder.  I fished those tourny's 4 years straight and quit when I sold my boat.  I forget the name of the tourny or who actually put them on.  I tried googling it but came up empty.  Does anyone remember these tourny's or know if they still have them?

Thanks,

Doug.

i have a fire fighter friend who fishes one annually. i will ask if this is the same gig.

That would be great if you could find out for me.

It was either the Police Olympics that are held in different parts of the state and Okeechobee is used for most regions for the bass fishing, or the Sheriffs Officer used to hold an annual Tourny that was opened to fire fighters, but stopped a few years back.

Did they have a Bar B Q after the tourny and have raffles in the big aluminum building? If so that was the Sheriffs Office Tourny.

They just had the Olympic one last month.

Theres also an International Police and Fire games but that held at TOHO.

Thanks Gartracker.  They did have a big BBQ and raffle afterwards..  Too bad they don't do it anymore.  Thanks again for the help.

Doug.

I used to fish that, it was a good time, now that the lakes up things will start back up, that 3 year drought hurt a lot of tournaments.

doug my friend just facebooked me last night and told me that the tourny he fishes is for fire fighters. they usually launch out of clewiston, but he said they switch areas to accomodate the northern fire fighters.

are teachers considered first responders?

I don't believe so  :'(, but I am.  Only one person in the boat needs to be 1st responder so you can fish with me if they ever start it up again.  It was a blast.  They had very good turnouts and the raffle prizes were good, and the BBQ.

Gartracker-  Yea, had some good times then.  Maybe I'll e-mail the Sheriff over there and tell him to start it up again.  Although I'm sure it's not the same Sheriff as back then.

Its not, I'm retiring next year and moving to the area, I'm friends with the current Sheriff of the adjacent county, I'm going to see if i can get it going again.

Maybe I should speek to my boss (Sheriff of Palm Beach) and try to get him to put one on.  It would have to be out of Belle Glade or Peehokee though.
