I'm planning on taking my boat down to Pocahontas State Park this afternonon.  I see Beaver Lake and Swift Creek Resv close to the park.  Can you get to Swift Creek Lake as well from there?  On google maps, it doesn't look like there is access to Swift Creek Lake from the park.  Thanks.

If you go in the main entrance on pocahontas state park just follow the signs to the boat ramp and that will put you right in swift creek lake.

that is swift creek reservoir but i believe it is connected to swift creek lake

AFAIK Swift Creek Reservoir and Lake are the same thing. What you see off of Hull St. is an arm of Swift Creek Lake.

Fishing was tough.  Got 3 fish in about 2 hours off senkos.  Water temp was 80 degrees.

So can you get to the BIG reservoir from the boat launch in the park?  Thanks guys.

how the depth finder do for you?? i just rigged my new one back up and going to try hunting run in fredericksburg/spotsy. this one so far no black screen so now just gotta see how it works.

Heya, swift creek res is the one off hull/genito

Swift creek lake and beaver lake are within the Pocahontas state park.

The res and the lakes aren't connected by anything larger than small creeks, I had a hard time getting to beaver lake from swift creek lake in my kayak.

The fish in my avatar came from the swift creek lake in the park. Try skipping senkos under the overhangs and spinnerbaits along the laydowns.

As for Swft creek res, there's a bunch of drop offs that you can find with the depth finder and there's an old bed road that runs through the res.

Some fish from the swift creek lake in Pocahontas...

We were out on the reservior yesterday and it was tough.  Got three fish.  Two of them coming though the middle of the lake casting out to no where with my senko on the retrieve.  The water temp was between 90-95.  I think the high water temp was 95.4.  I don't think the fish bit as well because they thought they were chillin in a hot tub. :)  Anyway, the place to launch your boat is off Woolridge.  Electric only.  Caught one on a popper near the end of the night when we heard some guy killin' it with flies.

Drop offs?  We probably didn't go to that part of the lake because the deepest I saw was about 9.8ft.  The lake in general is very shallow.

I want to hit up swift creek.  I have an old 12' jonboat that was given to me and hasn't been registered in years.  That being said do I have to register it even though I would only be using an electric motor? I think the answer would be yes, but was just checking.

Thanks

Yes, you have to register a boat even if it has an electric motor.

Simon - those are nice fish.  I'm assuming you threw them back?  I hope most people on this site do.  Unless it's over 8 pounds, then you can put it on your wall. :)  Thank you for the advise, I will definitely give it a shot.  I love my senkos.

Yea the east side of the lake has some nice drop offs. Drop offs don't really have to be deep. Just any vertical wall type deal will work. Along the east side there's a few that go from 2-12ft which will normally hold fish. Subtle holes will hold some also, along Woolridge it's around 5ft but there are a few holes that dip to about 8-9ft that fish like to hang in. The old road bed is nice also.

Try swift creek lake in pocahontas, it's a great fishery too and tons of overhangs, laydowns, pads, ect, to toss into.

and yes I throw almost all back in unless I feel like keeping some that's within a slot regulated lake. Sometimes keeping the smaller ones will help a fishery.
