Shenandoah River

Featured Replies

I am going to try the Shenandoah river tomorrow for the first time.  We will be east of Winchester.  Does anyone have any tips?  I have never fished there before.

i fished  near there a mon.  tried every lure in the arsenal. nothing. then switched to nigt crawler and salvged the day

This time of year you should be catching bucketloads of smallies on the river.  The majority of the time I use a weightless white fluke on them in the hot summer months.  Also try using small plastics.  You should have a great time out there.

small inline spinners like a mepps or a joe's fly should get you some quick action either from small smallies or some bluegill.

Thanks all, I actually did pick up 2 mepps yesterday on the advice of my uncle so I will try those and worms.  Heading out, I will report back tonight.  There will be 6 of us so someone is bound to catch something...hopefully :)

X2 or a 3" tube t-rigged or jig head set inside the tube

Well the only thing that worked today was red worms.  My Dad, niece, and nephew all caught a few sunfish/bluegill.   I didn't catch anything yet again.  My niece did catch a very small  LMB.  I decided after the first hour to practice my casting and play with some of my new tackle.  It was nice to have a place to do that where I wasn't getting my line snagged 90% of the time.  The 2 times I did snag I sent my niece out to retrieve it which she clearly enjoyed.

Aww well at least you had a fun time. Keep at it that tackle investment will pay off soon - it will make the first one better too :P

do you mean under the bridge on route 7? i went there not long ago, the water is pretty shallow through there. all i managed was one tiny smallmouth, same for my uncle. and those were on night crawlers. the funnest part was watching some guy wading in the middle of the river that kept tripping and falling over in the water.

i fished a tributary coming off the north fork (i think its north fork) right there in edinburg and was wearing them out.  bluegill, rockbass, sunfish, fallfish and a few real good smallies.  lure of choice were joe's fly's spinners or rooster tail spinners.  craw cranks are good too
