Lake Murray, SC

Featured Replies

Has anyone here fished Lake Murray with any success? My parents just got a house down there and I plan on being there in early November for a week and would like to get out a few times.

I've only had one tournament there, but I got to spend a week on the lake. It just happened that the tournament was in early November of last year so some of the stuff I learned might be able to help you out.

When I was there, it seemed there were 2 really good bites. One was back in the creeks on docks and wood. The fish were killing buzzbaits but it had to be crawled. I was using a Warrior buzzbait which is the slowest on the market IMO and layed into them. When I was using the Tru-Tungsten buzzbait, which is my favorite, I couldn't get a bite. That slow retrieve was key. The other bite was on the main lake points with a Sebile Magic Swimmer. The fish had the Blueback Herring pinned on the edges of the point and were busting them up. The wind really helped that bite. Just go from point to point chuckin the Magic Swimmer and also the Spro Aruku Shad which caught me a few. When that wind dies down, go over those areas with a jig or carolina rig and you should be able to catch a few.

The tournament was won up the Saluda River flipping a jig, but I don't know anything else other than that.

I have family that lives on the lake and I will be bringing my boat out there for Thanksgiving. If your around, we can try and figure something out.

Good luck dude and enjoy the lake. It's freaking gorgeous out there.

Thanks for the info. My parents own a home on the lake as well in Chapin and my dad will be bringing up the boat up. I will be there in early November and can let you know if and what we have any luck on.

Give the stripers a try while you're there. They should be starting up pretty good by then.
