strippers in the Potomac?

Featured Replies

Hello all. I have been hearing reports that strippers are being caught in the tidal Potomac. Is this the typical time they start showing up? How long are they here? What baits and techniques are best? Any links to info on the subject is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is this the typical time they start showing up?

In Florida as the snowbird season approaches strippers tend to show up in numbers at your typical places, Gold Rush, Rachels, and Crazy Horse. I would assume that in the Potomac as winter approaches they tend to follow the snowbirds south and west, especially to Nevada.

What baits and techniques are best?

I have found that paper money in denominations of $20, $50, and $100 work best.  Usually the higher the denomination the better quality stripper.

Any links to info on the subject is greatly appreciated.

I would love to give you links publicly, but fear being banned for hyperlinking the websites.

Good luck!

in the evenings on an incoming fast tide they start to show up at the mouths of creeks to feed, typically topwater. Throwing a popper and burning it acros the surface with get you strikes everytime. I've been catching up to 10lbs so far under the bridge near Mount Vernon Estates off the parkway at riverside park. Also if you have a boat you can head over to pomunkey creek directly across from hollowing point there excellent striper fishing there around this time. They'll hit anything from poppers to swimbaits here, even spoons

Aaron, that first spot he mentioned is that bridge we could see in the distance when we went fishing the first time. You should be able to run your boat back there. There is a channel the whole way back there with buoys marking it that is plenty deep enough for your boat.

Aaron,

Thanks for helping out Ernie!

South fla......... Bwhaaaaa haaaaaaa. I get jokes!! I think Aaron is looking for stripers. Pay attention to the places that pull fast current as someone mentioned. Also look for places that funnel water into places with ambush spots and very little avenue for escape for the bait. Creek mouths, bridge pilings, points with sharp drops etc. Try to look for current break and quick water. The river for stripers is better as the water cools and better with moving water. Swim baits and rattle baits work best with the occasional fish on blade.

I went back into little hunting run the other night for the first time. That's a really cool looking spot. Any tips for that area??? I'm pretty sure that is your neck of the woods...

yeah work parallel to the outher submerged weed line with a soft plastic very slowly, or burn a spinner

I usually use dollar bills when trolling for strippers....Now stripers on the other hand can be a lot of fun too.
