Who's been out on the Potomac lately?

Featured Replies

So whats been going on with the Potomac?  Are people still getting out, haven't seen many reports lately.  This upcoming weekend is free for me so I'm going to be making the trip from Blacksburg back to Fburg.  Skipping classes Friday so I can leave Thurs and be on the water all day Fri and Sat.   :)  Gauging from the guide reports it looks like a lot of the fish are back up in the creeks.  I've got a couple ideas on places to try but it'd be great if anybody who's been out could fill me in on what they've been seeing.  I've only got a weekend so I don't want to be wasting time.  In return I'll gladly give you a report back on how I do.  Feel free to PM me

I did well at the mouth of Mattawoman last weekend.  High tide frog bite was very very good.  If you are fishing the backs of creeks the frog bite in the pads has been very good as well.  If you can fish a Baby 1- through the pads that works great too but the tide has to be pretty high.

we have fished twice in the last week on where a creek meets out into the Potomac from canoe. These baits are the only ones we found to produce.

The frog did great last night at high tide and produced the biggest fish. The gold/black spinner with white trailer produced the most fish.

Hi Guys,

My first post here! Just found this board. Been on "the others" for 3-5 years now. How'd I miss this one?

I hit the Potomac as much as possible and still have a TON to learn. Been on it for 6-7 years now and still feel like a amatuer, because I am. Usually get out at least once a week though.

Potomac Angler: Looks like you have a good  idea of what you are doin. Me and My fishin buddy are always lookin to host someone who can help us with our learning, and share what we know. That goes for other board memebers too. Let's  see if we can  catch some fish!

I have a Chaparral 18 Bowrider, He has a Whaler 19'.

Wev'e been hitting Mattawoman for the last 6 weeks, but like to try other spots too. We've been all over the river.

Can't wait for the fall bigguns. We hope to get on the lower Potomac very soon.

Lee

Welcome mantis1, yea i just started bass fishing for the first time on my life and i started this past spring. I do how ever know a few guys that have been fishing the potomac for 15 years giving me pointers. I do agree there is so much to learn and i really wanna absorb as much info as i can. Good luck and i hope one day we all can meet and tear them bass up.

It's hard for fish to fight in the thick slop, especially the kind that snakeheads live in. It crushed the frog, I set the hook and then horsed him to the top where he thrashed around a little until we (I should say, Potomac Angler) pulled him out. If he were in open water I'll bet it would have been a LOT of fun. I believe it weighed 5lbs 4oz when I weighed it.

Thanks guys and welcome mantis, I wouldnt say im an expert or anthing by any means but i do hold my own. If you ever have an empty seat feel feel to hit me up man, I'm always up for meeting and fishing with new people.

and dan you need to get a new scale i think water got in yours or something, its throwing low readings  ;D

You know, I honestly think it reads low but I took a 5lb weight and hung it on there. It read 4.99...Maybe it only reads low for fish?
