Gear for Toho in April

Featured Replies

I'm coming down to Toho in April.  I primarily fish very clear lakes in Michigan with 6 - 8 lb. mono for Smallmouth.  I use medium rod, spinning tackle.  Will this work for Toho?  What lb should I use.  Any Baits I definitely need for this lake at that time?  Any help would be much appreciated, I rarely fish for Bass south of the 45th parallel.  Thanks

your gear will work until you smash a ten plus pounder and it takes you straight into the grass or weeds then you'd have to get in the water to get her out!  I'd say heavy rod with 30 pound test.  Toho is loaded with cover that big fish (10 plus) and smaller ones will bury themselves in!  Good luck while youre there!  If you're in open water that may be okay what you have though.  Other guys here will be able to tell you exactly what to use though!

I fish Toho and Kissimmee all the time.  I have nothing smaller than a 7' MH rod.  Line is 15 lb big game for top water, 20 lb flouro for clean water and 65 lb power pro for almost everything else.  If this cold weather keeps up you will be here in time for a hard spawn or post spawn at the worst.

As a general rule for Toho, finese fishing does not exist.

Big fish in Big weeds needs Big Gear.

PM me if you want specifics.
