Okay, I was told that I was being sent to Virginia, but it turns out I'm actually going to Huntington, West Virginia. Can anyone tell me what kind of fishing I can expect. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve.

Im pretty sure the potomac and new river flow thru west va with some real good smallmouth fishing. I also dont think that town is too far from northern va either so u could fish this area as well and all it has to offer. West Va is a beautiful place.

just looked at the map, ur gonna be all the way to the west of west va, I dont know what good spots there are to fish out there. ur gonna be a long way from the spots I already mentioned, didnt realize how far out that was. Ur gonna be out in the boonies

i currently live in charleston, wv (about an hour from huntington). There are lots of good places to fish in WV. For small mouth fishing, the New Rive and the Patomic River are good choices. The Kanawha and the Ohio also offer solid river fishing. As far as lakes go, by far, the best is Stonewall Jackson lake. VERY nice lake. If you have any questions about fishing or anything else, feel free to PM me and I'll help out the best i can.

Try the WV Sportsmans forum. Troutfisher is on here and I believe is a moderator there. Lots of good info there. You'll have some river fishing there and Summersville and Burnsville are fairly close.

Bird Dog, I live in Kentucky. Huntington is only 15 minutes away.

You will have access to some great bass fishing on the Ohio River

Yatesville Lake in Ky. and lots of other good lakes within an hour or so from Huntington.

  Well the fishing here is nothing like what your gonna find in Texas.  The New River is a Haul from Huntington. You'll have Yatesville close by, but it gets pounded. The OH river is close, but it can be tough as nails as well.  We do have some pretty descent lakes, you just have to drive a little bit.

Burnsville

Stonewall

As well as a few low HP holes in Jackson county.

  Its nothing like Texas, but you can find some descent fish.

Thanks guys! I've actually fished a tournament on Yatesville lake a few years back when I was stationed at Ft Knox, KY. I zeroed. Oh well, I'm still excited about the move. Is there any public land to hunt on out there?

and the deer are alot smaller out east then probably what your use to lol

I'm a native of wva - live and guide in Florida now but am moving back to the hills this summer. Bass fishing can be tough there but very interesting. Deep super clear smallmouth lakes (summersville) shallow brushy lake (burnsville)- all around lakes - Sutton, Stonewall Jackson - great river smallies - New, Elk (in places),Greenbrier -  big tough rivers - Ohio, Mon., Kanawha - the place can challenge you with diverse systems and techniques - a great training ground. Many times you will get a musky or trophy walleye while bass fishing. I love fishing there except some winters are too cold (like this one) -

You'll be less than an hour from Cave Run which is the muskie capital of the south.  And not to bad for bass either.
