Kids Fish Day

Featured Replies

I'm helping out with the Pulaski County 1st Annual Kids Fishing Day. our event staff includes local volunteers,Blue Ridge Council BSA, local Conservation Officers, Police Officers, area Hunter Education Instructors, Fire Department and EMS.

The Boy Scouts have offered thier 2.5 acre lake at Camp Powhatan for us to use to stock trout for the 1st Annual Pulaski County Fishing Day on May 8, 2010.

We are in need of donations to help out with this event, some of the things that we need: fishing rods and reels to loan out for the ones that don't have a rod and reel, size 6&8 hooks, small sinkers, 4&6lb fishing line, door prizes, power bait for trout and could really use money. we have to buy the trout, food, transportation for the kids and t shirts for the event. hopefully all will go well and the kids have a great time and then there would be a 2nd Annual Pulaski County Fishing Day

For more information you can call (540) 641-4455 or e-mail kidsfishingday@gmail,com

Butch, contact your local Food City store and inquire about donations.  They donate all food & drink for my club's Kid's Day event and have been doing so for several years.  They even brought in the racing buggy a couple of years ago.

I have to ask, why buy the trout, when you have the river right there?

Make sure you contact the the multitudes of bait and tackle shops in the area for donations.  You're gonna want to bring the lead in from outside NY - no lead sales here.

don't know why trout unless when stocked in a pond would be easyer for the kids to catch and give them a chance to enjoy fishing, as for the river i couldn't see 400 kids turned loose on the new river around here, the ages are for 15 and under, fishing around the small lake is more kid friendly and easier to help out the kids and easyer supervised.

Fishing for stockers is a great way to get a kid hooked.  Our host town stocks them up to 4 lbs. and gives the kids free run of the place for a day before anyone else gets a chance.

Yeh back home in WV. They do the same thing. They stock the night before. Actually have to get people to watch it all night to keep people from fishing.

Equitable Productions have put in on for the last 3 years. They stock a local creek call Paint Creek. Its the last place they stock in trout season. It located at a handicap pier. The Creek is about 40 yards wide. They net of a section about 100 yards long.

If it is a 501c3 organization, also check with Walmart as they are usually keen to help with such things.
