Alabama River

Featured Replies

hey!

I was wondering if anyone had recently been out on the alabama river?? I am looking for a fishing report because i am going this weekend, we will be launching from the Powder Magazine Ramp.

I am guessing you will be fishing the collegiate tournament out of Montgomery.   Spots will be close to cover at the edge of current in the main river.   Flipping / pitching jigs behind / in fallen trees or stumps always seems to work.   Green pumpkin in clearer water or black / brown if it gets muddy.  Largemouths will be in creeks primarily.  Primary forage fish is threadfin shad.     Call Alabama Power for generation schedules at 800-525-3711.

Good luck.

haha yea that's the tournament. Thanks for the advice! I plan to get in some practice on Friday so hopefully we can figure things out.

I forgot to mention that the Army corps of engineers runs the dam at the lower end.  The number for their generation schedules is 334-682-4896.  Let us know how you did and what patterns were working.

I have been wanting to fish the alabama river but have never had the chance. I only live about an hour north of montgomery so i could easily drive and fish for a day but my question is ? Is the alabama river  covered with underwater rocks because the river system that i fish in town(chattahoochee river) is and the only kind of boat you can fish out of is a aluminum boat because of all the rocks.

The Alabama is a big river.  Barges can go all the way up to Wetumpka.   Come check it out.  There is a reason there have been several BASS classics and last year's tour championship here.

Good luck,

BamaNate
