does anyone know of local places for trout fishing?

i know there are some creeks/streams about 2-3 hrs away that have decent trout, but i am looking for somewhere in NOVA that has them.

There are a caouple of trout streams down here in Stafford, and a few trout ponds in PWC and in F'burg. All are stocked, and all will not be stocked again until Novemeber.

Ahh. Thanks for the ideas, however if I wanted to head out that far, I would just head into the BR Mts. Plenty of natural creeks out there with regular trout, not the farm-raised stocked rainbows.

I am mostly looking for local streams/rivers/creeks that might be good for UL spinning, or fly rods with waders.

Hahaha. Well I prefer NOT stocked yeah, but it ain't looking good is it haha. Well I just figured I would ask. No hurt in that.

I guess I can resort to fishing stocked dummies instead 

lol, well depending on our traffic around here, you could probably make it to a native trout stream in the Shen. Valley from Sterling in almost the same time it would take you to get to some of the stock streams down our way!

I plan on exploring the GW National Forest this summer, I'll let you know what I find.

haha actually i was thinking about that. i know that i could easily head west towards the BR mts and easily find some nice natural stream patterns to fish. AND it would be much quieter.

do you spin or fly fish? id like to take a trip down to GWNF, let me know when you are heading down, id gladly come with if you dont mind the company.

I just started fly fishing. If I go down there it will be with a fly rod. I'll let you know when I make plans.

Thanks for the link. I will definitely take a look. However WV fishing isn't a day trip. It's definitely more of a weekend trip. I was looking for somewhere I could drive to in under an hr, nice and early on a Sat morning, and fish til late afternoon.

thanks steve. actually i know about lake fairfax, and was considering hitting that up this weekend actually. apparently they will be stocking it friday. however there is also a fee associated with trout-stocked waters in fairfax county. i think its $12/day, or $37/yr for a pass.

anyone interested in reeling in some ditzy bows this weekend?

jaystu11, I have caught my limit of trout a couple of times this season at Lake Fairfax. I seems the best luck I have had is the day they stock or the day after. They stock between 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The only bummer is it cost 37 bucks for the permit. They seem to put in some okay size fish (1.5#). This week I have been bass fishing there instead and I have seen a lot of guys catching their limit.

Just a heads up, I was there this morning at 7:00 a.m. and the windward side of the lake was covered in some kind of an slick ( maybe oil or fuel) I don't know what it was but I might not fish for trout anymore 'cause I don't want to eat them. Anyway, hope this helps. Tight lines

I dont know how far you are from here, but Fort AP Hill I know stocks a pond (maybe more than one now) with trout.
